Sundays at 5:00

January 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is the time of the weekend that I, inevitably, begin complaining and bemoaning the fact that I have to go back to work tomorrow. Every five minutes, or so, I either think or say, “Uggh. I don’t wanna go to work, tomorrow.” To this, Jason replies, “Huh. It must really suck to have to work on Mondays.” Asshole gets to work four-day weeks and rubs it in every chance he gets.

So, to combat the complaining that no one wants to hear, here are some good things from my weekend:

  1. The really good salad I ate on Friday night. Jason stopped by the grocery on his way home and made me a kick-ass salad. I ate it with Annie’s Naturals Goddess Dressing which I really, really am liking.
  2. Watching Jason Bourne kick CIA tail in The Bourne Ultimatum. I saw it in the theater, but it was really great the second time around.
  3. Sleeping in on Saturday morning. I woke up in a funny way, though, with Jason exclaiming a string of profanities and then asking, “What day is it?” I think I mumbled something akin to “fstarturday.” He was relieved, thinking he was late to work, otherwise.
  4. The Wildcats beating the undefeated Commodores of Vanderbilt University in double overtime. While I’ll conveniently ignore the fact that it’s ridiculous to be excited about beating such a historically inferior opponent, they were undefeated, and (this year) a win is a win. They played like and actual, fully-functioning, Division I basketball team.
  5. Watching the Packers beat the pants off the Seahawks in a game that quickly started rivaling the Snow Bowl in weather condition. My (pretend) boyfriend was so cute throwing footballs and snowballs.
  6. Acquiring a new addition to my living room that I can not only store my ammo and firearms in, but that I could, conceivably, hide myself in the event of some sort of disaster.
  7. Sitting in the super-comfortable dual-recliner rocker love seat and watching Christian Bale play a loser/badass Arizona rancher in 3:10 to Yuma.
  8. The Dairy Queen Extreme Brownie Earthquake I just ate. Holy moly, that stuff is good, even if it is crap.

That’s all, so far. There’s still time for more stuff, but it was a good weekend.

I still don’t want to go to work, tomorrow.

Tainted Victory

December 18, 2007 · 3 Comments

ESPN is now reporting that suspensions are likely to be handed out to as many as 20 Florida State football players. Those suspensions will be in effect for the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl on January 31. That’s the bowl game in which the University of Kentucky will be playing.

I’m all for punishing cheaters. I think cheating in college athletics is probably much more rampant than I, or any other fan, wants to believe. However, I’m worried that a victory by the Cats in the Music City Bowl will now be automatically followed by a “Well, yeah, but look at all the FSU players that weren’t eligible…” type of comment. I hate that a team that has worked so hard to come out of the depths of NCAA probation and sanctions to become one of the most successful Kentucky football squads during my lifetime will get shortchanged by a “well, yeah, but…” kind of victory.

It was fun to think that we were better than the storied Seminoles. We, Kentucky, resigned to being the lowest of the toughest conference in college football were going to whoop up on a program that was dynastic not so long ago. It’s still fun to know that the team isn’t full of student-athletes that can’t take their own internet quizzes, but it takes the focus off the game, off the talent and hard work of the players (on both sides).

Cheating sucks. Don’t do it. That’s the moral of this story.

Boogers, Basketball and Bowl Games

December 3, 2007 · 1 Comment

I just realized that I haven’t blogged about anything sports-related in a while. I don’t want anyone to think that sports aren’t my #1 favorite thing to watch on television, my #1 favorite thing to Fantasy-ize about or my #1 favorite thing involved muscle-bound men in tight pants or sleeveless shirts. So, here’s a post about sports.

First, I’ve hashed and re-hashed the UNC vs. UK game with a couple of people. Frankly, I’m tired of talking about it. However, I do have to say that the boys in blue (the real blue, not that crappy sky blue) looked much better than they have in previous games and much better than I expected them to. Turnovers are still happening much too often. I’m still not sold on Billy G., but I’m trying to keep my mind open.

One of the most interesting things to come out of the UNC/UK game was a possible submission to the You Idiot! You’re On National Television Awards. It should rank right up there with William Hung and any of the Tara Reid wardrobe malfunctions. I give you UK’s best player, Patrick Patterson, and the grossest thing kids in first grade used to do:

Yesterday, the BCS bowl games were announced. As expected, Kentucky is going back to Nashville for the Music City Bowl. I’m sure many people were hoping for a “better” bowl in a warmer climate, but I think Nashville is a great city for Cat fans, and getting the chance to beat Bobby Bowden and those jack-assy Seminoles is great. The sad part: THE GAME IS ALREADY SOLD OUT! I’m not sure when it sold out, but I tried to scope out some tickets on Ticketmaster as soon as I heard and they were gone. Darn you early buyers! How awesome would it be to watch the Cats whoop up on some ACC trash and spend New Year’s Eve in Nashville?!?! Pretty damn, I think.

There you have it, folks. My latest sports-related blomit.

22 shopping days until Christmas!

Spontaneity

November 9, 2007 · 6 Comments

I’m not a pick-up-and-go kinda girl. I like plans. I like plans to be made early and to be very detailed. I like knowing what’s going to happen. I like preparation. (this isn’t to say I don’t like surprises, like gifts, but…)

Right now, I’m incredibly excited because. this morning, I got an offer of tickets to go to Sunday’s Tennessee Titans game. My cousin knows someone, blah, blah. They’re affordable! They’re my favorite team! I didn’t have anything planned for Sunday but laying around! Now…who do I want to take with me?

Jason was surprised when I asked, “Want to go to a football game on Sunday? Oh, by the way, it’s in NASHVILLE.”

“Nashville?!? Like, Tennessee?” he asked.

“Yup.”

“ummm…This Sunday?”

So, I explained it and he expressed amazement that I’d do something so spur-of-the-moment. In my experience, though, I’ve only ever done Nashville as a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.

I’m seriously excited. I love the Titans. I just washed my Vince Young jersey. All is good!

Woo hoo! (be jealous, NatDaddy!)

(Oh, and, by the way, in further “I can’t believe you guys date” news…I had a little inner snicker when Jason asked, “So, what kind of football is this? College? Pro? What?” :)   )

I almost forgot today’s interesting fact! I’ve only ever been to three professional sporting events. One Cincinnati Reds baseball game and two preseason Bengals games. Yay!

Sundays are for Football and Beer

November 4, 2007 · 3 Comments

Today portends to be a great one in the NFL season. Two teams will meet each other that are perfect, the 8-0 Patriots and the 7-0 Colts. It’s a shame that these two are in the same division, because what a great Super Bowl matchup that would be! I can’t remember a time when the undefeated Super Bowl champs, playing at home, were the underdog in such a huge game. Yeah, there are meetings of undefeateds, all the time, but in Week 9?!? Not so often.

While Jason and I will be on our way home (well, to his home) from the wild, wild east, I’m hoping to coax him into stopping at a bar in Lexington to watch at least a part of this game (he doesn’t know that if I get to watch a part of it, I’ll want to watch the whole thing).

Go Colts! Tom Brady, fall in love with me!

NaBloPoMo Theme — (un)Interesting Fact About Me – Bodily Contortions: I can wiggle my ears, curl my tongue and turn my tongue over. I can also line one foot up, parallel to the other, but facing backwards (this might need demonstration for understanding). I can also touch my giant bowling ball of a nose with my tongue. Additionally, every single last thing on the right side of my body is somehow lopsided, skewed or otherwise not in alignment or proportion to every single last thing on my left side. Some things are more noticeable than others.
